Established in 1972 as a centre for wheat breeding, this station had its foundations laid, in reality, in 1976 when sugarcane research and seed production of fodder and vegetable crops were shifted here.  Two major leaps that followed led to the present shape of the Station: in 1979 sugarcane research was greatly expanded and in 1982 National Agricultural Research Project (NARP) came into operation.  Maize research, which commenced in 1979, was strengthened by NARP in 1984.  RRS Karnal stands today as the University's best equipped Research Station.  This Station is located about 6 kms from Karnal City on National Highway No.1, midway between Delhi and Chandigarh.
