Mathematics and Statistics at a Glance
The Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics has been imparting quality education in Mathematics and Statistics since its inception in 1971.  It has three major components viz., teaching, research and consultancy.  The Department offers courses of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics for UG and PG students of various colleges of the university i.e., Agriculture, Basic Sciences & Humanities, Agricultural Engineering, Home Science and LLRUVAS.  This department has a strong research program on theoretical and applied aspects with emphasis on applications of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics in agriculture and allied fields. Besides supporting other disciplines in their research, the department is running its own M.Sc. program in Statistics & Physics and Ph.D. program in Statistics. Advisory and consultancy services are also provided by the faculty members to research scholars and scientists of the entire university.
  Thurst Area
The main thrust of the department is to promote mathematical applications and research in linear programming, Real & Complex Analysis and Fluid Mechanics etc. and statistical applications and research in Stochastic Processes, Design of Experiments, Genetic Statistics, Sample Surveys, Statistical Inference, Linear Models, Regression Analysis and Time Series Analysis.

Scope:
Well trained students of statistics have great scope and job opportunities in teaching and research in colleges and universities as well as in the private sectors.  Competent statisticians are in great demand for data analysis and conducting marketing research in multinational companies.  Industrial quality control and consultancy are other areas open to the professional statisticians. We train our students to face any kind of challenge in their employment career. The courses taught by the department have been revised as per the recommendations of the ICAR at national level. Most of the ex-students of this department are very well placed at national and international levels. Some of them are in faculty and other responsible positions  in universities and institutes of national and international repute.

Celebration of National Mathematics Day-22nd December, 2015

‘National Mathematics Day-2015’ was celebrated by the Department of Mathematics, Statistics & Physics, CCSHAU, Hisar on 22nd December, 2015 to commemorate the 128th birth anniversary of Sh. Shrinivasa Ramanujan. The Vice Chancellor, Dr. K. S. Khokhar, Chief Guest of the day, inaugurated the function and lighted the lamp. All the Deans and Directors of the university were also present. On this occasion various competitive events were organized for the school students from class 1st to 12th. More than 20 schools participated in the events.

The Vice Chancellor while expressing his views said that mathematics is known to be the mother of all sciences. He emphasized on the importance of mathematics in every field. He also said that technology available today is based on mathematics and other basic sciences.

The Dean, Dr. R. K. Jain welcomed the Chief Guest, invited speakers and the audience. He said that it a great honor to celebrate the birthday of  mathematical genius and a teacher par excellence, Srinivasa Ramanujan (born on 22 December 1887), for his contributions in the field of a subject Mathematics. His contributions helped India to show its presence internationally. Ramanujan made extraordinary contribution in number theory, infinite series, mathematical analysis. Dr. D. S. Tonk, HOD, Dept. of Maths presented the vote of thanks.

The speakers of the day, Dr. Man Singh, Retd. Professor & Head, Dept. of Math & Stat and Dr. N. P. Singh, Professor, MDI, Gurgoan delivered persuasive and informative lectures to the students and gave away the prizes and certificates to the winners and participants.   Dr. Hemant Poonia, Asstt. Prof., Dept. of Maths also delivered a lecture on the topic “Famous Indian Mathematicians and their contributions”. Dr. Manju S. Tonk, Prof., Dept. of Maths very successfully managed the overall events and she compared the program also. Dr. Anju, Asstt. Prof., CFST and Dr. Poonam Mor, Asstt. Prof., Dept. of LHC was the Quiz Masters for junior and senior group respectively.
