The Computer Centre was established in 1979. The
administrative control is with the Dean, College of
Basic Sciences & Humanities. The Centre is located in
the College of Basic Sciences & Humanities building
with a total covered area of aprox. 10,000 sq. ft. It
has 8 rooms (seminar room, staff room, incharge's
room, software development lab, server and switch
room, Network Lab, Teaching lab etc.). The Computer
Centre has, at present one MICRO32 Unix machine,
around 60 P-IV PCs and different kinds of
printers for the use of faculty and students as well
as for its staff. Two Sun Ultra 450 servers,
three X235 IBM servers running
Solaris operating system are being used for internet
connectivity.
The
installation of Campus-wide GIGABIT Network is
implemented by this centre with funds from AHRD
project.

Activities
The activities at the Computer Centre include
processing of PAY-BILLS for different departments in
the university, maintenance of GPF/CPF, GSLIS,
accounts, admissions of UG and PG courses, scientific
computation (statistical as well as formulae
translations), teaching computer courses
(Comp-501/Stat-509,Comp 502, Comp 503, Comp 504, FN
455, Mgt 507,
Comp-101). In addition, an extensive usage of e-mail
and Internet surfing are the two major activities. The
Computer Centre is also associated with all matters
relating to computer (purchase, maintenance etc) in
the university.
The
Centre is the gateway for internet connectivity and
runs the web-server for the University. |
