Mandate

CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar is one of the leading Indian Agricultural University to establish the Department of Agricultural Meteorology on 16 February, 1982 as per the recommendations of National Commission on Agriculture. Since than, an excellent infrastructure has been created for teaching/research/extension in agrometeorology viz., Agril climatology, crop weather interactions, field microclimatic modifications, weather-crop-disease and insect-pest interactions, crop growth simulation modeling and climate change impact assessment on crop production.

Objectives

  • To organize upgraded postgraduate research and teaching activities in the applied domain of Agricultural Meteorology, Plant Biophysics, Remote Sensing and GIS

  • To conduct strategic research for understanding the physical processes of crop plants growing under varying soil and atmospheric environments for enhanced and sustainable agricultural productivity

  • To maintain agro-meteorological observatories and create agromet-physical information database for state of Haryana for use of students and scientists and also for the National Pool for scientific use

  • To prepare real time/medium range weather based agro-advisory bulletins for the farmers of the state of Haryana

  • To conduct regular training courses/conferences on various aspects in the applied field of Agricultural Meteorology for Agricultural Resource Planning and Management at National and International levels

Thrust areas in Teaching, Research and Extension

  • To impart theoretical and practical knowledge about various processes, principles and applications of agrometeorology

  • Weather-crop-insect-pest and disease interaction and forecasting

  • Climatic change and its impact on agricultural production

  • Crop weather relationship and crop growth modeling

  • Agroclimatic resource characterization

  • Remote Sensing and GIS applications

  • Real-time monitoring of weather for preparation of contingency crop plan

  • Weather based Agro-advisories for farmers in both agroclimatic zones of Haryana

  • Decision support system for use of farmers through weather based advisories
