Activities of Directorate of Students' Welfare

Housing of the Students:

This directorate has 12 hostels – 10 at Hisar Campus and two at Kaul. All the modern amenities and facilities for the comfortable stay of the students have been provided in the hostels. The solar water heating facilities have also been provided in the hostels. There are about 1200 students residing in the hostels.

There are common rooms, dining hall, study rooms etc. in the hostels. The Colored Televisions, water coolers, indoor games facilities etc. have been provided in the hostels. The newspapers and magazines are provided in the hostels. The hostel functions and Sports Intra & Inter Hostel Competitions are also held.

          There are two Wardens in each hostel for the administration of the hostels and for the maintenance of discipline, good behavior and enforcement of the hostel rules.

          The hostel perfects amongst the students of good standing are appointed to assist in the administration of the hostels. The Hostel Committees/Hostel Welfare Committees consisting of the students are provided in the hostels for looking after the issues relating to the welfare of the residents with respect to the hostel maintenance and management of the common room, kitchens/dining hall etc. Every student is required to maintain discipline and peaceful atmosphere in the hostels. No hostel resident is required to stay outside the hostel for night without prior permission of the Warden. The night daily roll calls are taken in r/o the boarders in Girl Hostel as every girl resident is to present personally at the fixed time at night.

There are two messes in the hostels. These are runned on cooperative basis. The students themselves man these messes. The students constitute the mess Committees and make arrangement for all the eatables with the assistance of hostel staff. However, the utensils, crockery and other facilities etc.  are provided by the University.

There is one P.G. (Married) Hostel. This hostel has 36 flats. Each flat is of compact one consisting two rooms, kitchen and toilet facilities etc. Married students (except in-service students of CCSHAU having CCSHAU accommodation at any station of the University) living with the family, with not more than 2 children, enrolled in postgraduate studies will be eligible for accommodation in the married hostel. The interested students are required to submit their application on the prescribed proforma and the priorities for allotment of flats is made as under:

  • Foreign students

  • CCSHAU postgraduate married students

  • In-service students from other State/Govt./ICAR/Other agencies

  • In-service students (teachers of CCSHAU).

Extra Co-curricular activities: This directorate also supervises the extra co-curricular activities of the students. Some of the important activities are as under:

1.   Music Activity: This music activity is an attractive component of extra co-curricular activities for the students of the University. This activity is one of the credit activity and a no.of students of constituent colleges are registered in this activity. The music teams participate in several programmes of the University and also in Zonal/National Level Inter University Youth Festivals/Inter Agricultural University Youth Festival from time to time.

2.   Dramatic Activity: Dramatic is also one of the popular club/activities of the University. This activity inculcates and exposes the creative aspects of the students, helping them to develop overall personality and to enable them to face the highly advanced and competitive arena after completion of their degree.

3.   Literary: Literary society continues in its endeavor to explore the hidden literary talents of the students. Large no.of students of the Colleges have registered themselves for debate as co-curricular activity. They are trained in public speech. This society also arranges and encourages the students to participate in the   “on the Spots Essay Writing contest” and poster making and other contests etc.

4.   Graphic Art Activity: Graphic Art Society is responsible for the teaching and training of students who registered for Photography as their co-curricular activities. Students are taught basic problem of photography and are trained in practical aspects of camera handling, film processing, printing, colour photography for lectures and demonstration. They are also educated the art of making slide to enable them to make their presentations at the time of their thesis, seminars/workshops etc. in a more effective manner.

5. Mountaineering: Mountaineering Club encourages the students for adventures activities like high altitude trekking in the Himalayan and High Mountain Regions. They are also imparting training in parasailing etc.

6.   NCC: NCC Activity is also one of the credit activities and a no.of students of constituent colleges are registered in this activity. The students are imparted training on drill with or without weapon, map reading, field craft, patrolling, weapon training and firing etc. NCC cadets are trained enough to pass the ‘B’ & ‘C’ examinations. The NCC cadets have number of credits at their levels. The NCC camps are held from time to time.

7.    NSS: National Service Scheme is one of the credit activities of the University. NSS volunteers are educated and encouraged for various activities including population education, national literacy personal hygiene, immunization especially anti polio campaign environment cleanliness programme etc. NSS unit organizes pollution, aids awareness etc. They also organize various camps and also train or educate in helping the needy persons in case of need/emergency/calamities. NSS volunteers have been selected for the Republic Day Parade at Delhi during previous years. Even one of the volunteer has participated in International Youth Development Exchange Programme/Conference in Tokyo (Japan) on the recommendations as well as financial assistance of Govt.of India. Miss Anureet Kaur who attended Conference in Japan was also awarded Indira Gandhi NSS Award for the year 1999-2000 in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi for her outstanding performance in social work.  NSS volunteers also organize blood donation and other camps like Nagrik Suraksha & cleanliness etc.

8.     Sports Activities: This directorate encourages the students to participate in the sports activities in maximum no.on Inter Hostel and Inter College Tournaments are held. They are also given opportunity to participate in the State and National level sports events as well as zonal and All India Inter University Sports Meetings/Tournaments. Our students participated in All India Agricultural Sports Meet and got Gold, Silver & bronze medal respectively.
