CCS HAU and Bioinformatics
Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University popularly known as HAU is one of Asia's biggest agricultural universities, located at Hisar in the Indian state of Haryana. It is a leader in agricultural research in India and contributed significantly to Green Revolution and White Revolution in India in the 1960s and 70s. It has a very large campus and has several research centres throughout the state. It won the Indian Council of Agricultural Research's Award for the Best Institute in 1997.
To keep abreast with the developments in various fields of science and technology with a guided emphasis on agriculture, CCS HAU started a PG programme in Bioinformatics in 2004 in the College of Basic Sciences and Humanities.
In 2007, the University developed a separate state-of-the-art infrastructure for Bioinformatics with latest hardware and a 4 MBPS dedicated internet connectivity.
Till 2011 academic session, 80 students have graduated from this Section and are placed in various teaching and research institutions as well as pursuing Ph.D. in various international and national laboratories.
The Bioinformatics Section has a mandate to train manpower in Bioinformatics, carry out research with particular emphasis on agricultural sciences as well as provide Bioinformatics consultancy to students and scientists of various biological disciplines.
Teaching has been the main focus for first few years but now the faculty is undertaking research in broader areas - Computer aided drug design, QSAR, Homology Modeling, programming languages (perl, PHP), relational database, Data mining of Rice Genome.
Bioinformatics Section is located at the ground floor of the College of Basic Sciences and Humanities. Two very modern and air-conditioned classrooms-cum-laboratories having latest PCs, LCD monitors, multimedia projectors is operational.
